In India chillies were introduced in 1498 and since then they form an integral part of Ayurvedic medicines. Chillies not only ward of many diseases but also stimulate digestive system and are known to burn extra calories, thus, helping you in slimming down.


Chili peppers are the fruits of Capsicum pepper plants and are naturally available in wide varieties ranging from cayenne to jalapenos. Capsaicin is the chief bio-active compound which imparts distinctive heady taste and the antioxidants content in them wash out the radical bodies thus imparting many health benefits.


Chillies are loaded with vitamin A; B, C and E, potassium, thiamin, molybdenum etc. and are mainly used as spices or as trivial ingredients in various dishes, spice blends and sauces.


1. Detoxifying properties: Chillies are rich in antioxidants and they act as detoxifiers by ensuring the removal of toxins and waste from our body. They also aid in proper digestion and increase in supply of nutrients to the body.


2. Antibiotic: They assist in supplying blood to site of infection and this fresh blood containing WBC’s and leukocytes fights infection.


3. Analgesic: They act as stimulant to release endorphins that are natural pain killers. It helps in relieving pain caused by shingles, muscles spasm, bursitis, arthritic pains etc.


4. Cancer: Vitamin C, beta – carotene folic acid found in chili reduces the risk of prostrate and colon cancer. Caratonoid lycopene in chillies act as antioxidants which shield the body against free radical damage enhancing natural immunity towards cancer and ageing.


5. Heart disease: High homocysteine level which damages blood vessels which increase risk of heart attack and stroke. Chillies reduce high homocysteine level and lower cholesterol level thus making the heart and arteries healthy.


6. Lung disease: They keep lung diseases at bay by relieving nasal congestion, chronic congestion, by reducing lung inflammation and by dilating airway of lungs.


They have zero calories, so, having spicy food can actually provide some great health benefits.
